One of the best, a must for anyone who moves

Sweigard's breakdown of the body's bony and muscular systems is easy to understand and precise. Even more interesting are her studies in ideokinesis and methods of facilitating positive change in the human body through the mind. It may sound like mumbo-jumbo, but Sweigard's techniques and methods are rock-solid scientific. This is an enduring anatomy and kinesiology handbook that hasn't gone out of date yet and probably won't. A must for anyone who moves, especially dancers and athletes.

Incredible!

Lulu Swiegard's Human Movement Potential is a must read for every serious yoga student. Its the source book for what's call ideokinesis, a name she coined for a wonderful system of body-mind education based on the use of creative imagery. Ideokinesis can be translated roughly as the 'image or thought as facilitator of the movement.'
Much of what I learned in Yoga classes in my early years as a student I found echoed in Sweigard's book, which was written in the 1970s. This book is chock full of the most erudite knowledge pertaining to how postures and phsyical development connects with our personalities, needs, strengths, and challenges.
Two other great books on the topic that I recommend are: Ideokinesis: A Creative Approach to Human Movement and The Thinking Body.

The turning words.

Being a fan of Mabel Todd, I bought this book for the difference in viewpoint and phrasing. The changes in perspective that will make me stop, think, smile. It has fulfilled that expectation!
