A superb overview of LFIA technology

Those seeking to beat drug tests will be disappointed by this book. For drug-war chemical "arms race" information, look elsewhere, such as online websites or hardcopy publications in head shops. But for anyone designing, building, or using Lateral Flow Immunoassay (LFIA) medical devices (test strips) in R&D, manufacturing, or clinical settings, this is a mandatory textbook, and a very, very good one.
The price is steep--ten times that of a typical non-fiction 200-page trade paperback. Is it worth it? A resounding Yes! The construction, chemistry, and manufacturing of LFIA devices are all covered in depth. LFIA-based products are used to test for hundreds of metabolic and infectious disease indicators, both in the field and at home. This book ensures you will be deeply and well-informed about LFIA testing strengths and weaknesses.
Some caveats--this book is not light reading for the beach. While most sentences are finely polished gems, you will need to plow through this book methodically, as you would a math or a programming book. Different aspects of LFIA are discussed from different perspectives, and the full picture emerges only slowly, but will be exciting and rewarding to those who persist--there is much to know about such seemingly trivial technology. (The strength of LFIA is its simplicity. So is its weakness.)
So be patient--everything is explained eventually, just not in any one chapter or section. Also, a bit more copyediting to sprinkle some words like "the" here and there would smooth out some syntax. But that is a minor quibble. Overall, if you are in the test strip immunoassay business to monitor the qualitative presence or absence of key indicators in saliva, blood, urine, or food samples, without fielding expensive chromatography or spectrometry equipment, get this book and study it intently. The knowledge payoff will be enormous.
